Michelle, Judah, and Gracie Harris are getting used to their new life in Discovery Mountain. Michelle is studying the Bible and Gracie has a question about it!
“Mom! Mom!” Gracie called out from her room.
“Yes,” Michelle answered. “I’m right outside your bedroom door, you don’t have to yell.”
“Mom,” Grace answered distractedly, “I can’t find my other yellow sock.”
Michelle reached for the dresser drawer. “How about a pink sock with brown puppies?” she said.
Gracie crinkled up her nose in answer.
“Here then,” Michelle said handing her a pair of white socks, “you can’t go wrong with these.”
“Or right,” Gracie said quietly. Wiggling her toes into the plain socks, Gracie watched her Mom tidy up her sock drawer.
“Mom,” Gracie asked, “Are you happy in Discovery Mountain?”
Michelle stopped sorting socks and sat down on the edge of Gracie’s bed. “I think so,” she answered. “I have new friends, like Mrs. Lee, who love to study the Bible with me and pray.”
Gracie plopped down next to her mom. “Mrs. Lee is my teacher, and she’s your friend,” she said, deep in thought.
“Yes, she is,” Miss Michelle replied.
“I didn’t know that teachers had friends,” Gracie said.
“Of course they do,” Michelle said wrapping her arm around Gracie’s shoulder.
“When you and Mrs. Lee study the Bible,” Gracie asked, “does she give you pop quizzes and make little green marks next to your spelling mistakes?”
“No honey,” Michelle answered with a laugh, “Mrs. Lee and I study the Bible to get to know more about God. The Bible is like God’s letter to us.”
“So,” Gracie asked with a puzzled look on her face, “Mrs. Lee doesn’t give you a grade after Bible study?”
“Nope, no grades,” Michelle assured her daughter.
Gracie smiled. “Whew, I was a little worried about you mom. Mrs. Lee is a no-nonsense teacher!”
Michelle hugged Gracie and they both laughed.
Suddenly, a loud crashing sound interrupted their laughter! Michelle and Gracie jumped.
“What was that,” Gracie asked.
“I’ll find out,” Michelle answered. She called out to her son. “Judah! Judah what happened?”
Judah called out from the other room. “I’m alright mom,” he said calmly. “The cupboard door just fell off!”
Gracie giggled as she wondered how her brother could sound so calm after such a big crash!
“This old house needs a lot of repairs,” Michelle said with a sigh. “There are more repairs than I can keep up with!”
Gracie watched her mom walk into the hallway, her forehead crinkled with worry. Quietly she whispered to herself, “We are happy in Discovery Mountain. Right?!”
