Running from God?

By Jean Boonstra

Jake Donovan is running through the trees. In just a minute he’ll burst out of the woods and into the town of Discovery Mountain. Jake stumbles into town quite by accident. He is a young man who is afraid of heights, running away to the mountains! There must be a good reason for that! Let’s see if we can find out why Jake is running and Who is he running from.

What was that? Who is there? Well, I’m not waiting to find out! Get me out of these woods!

Whoa, what is this? I thought I was running away, away from everything. It looks like there is a town, right here in the middle of nowhere.

What was that sound? Who is following me? I can hear you walking! I hear the branches breaking under your feet. What do you want from me?

Oh, oh my! You’re a hungry little guy. What are you a deer? Maybe a moose?  Well, little guy, go ahead and munch away on those leaves like nothing ever happened. You scared me nearly half to death!

Jake sits on a rock, the baby moose calf eating his lunch beside him. Jake stretched his aching legs and let his backpack drop with a thud beside him. Behind him are miles of wilderness—he’d climbed a long way up the mountains to get away from something! Just over the edge and down the mountain Jake sees the small town of Discovery Mountain.

This town is breathtaking! Is this your home little guy? Oh, no, I guess you live out here in the wilderness. Wilderness living works for you. It doesn’t work very well for me. I haven’t had a hot meal or a hot shower in three days. Running away like this is exhausting. Maybe it wasn’t the smartest idea in the world to try and run away from God.

Jake looks out at a beautiful scene in front of him. On each side of the little town, the tall green trees sway in the breeze. Behind the cluster of cabins with green roofs a blue-grey mountain with a snowy white peak forms a pretty backdrop. Jake doesn’t realize it yet, but Discovery Mountain isn’t just any town. It’s made up of special people, too. People from all corners of the Earth end up here—and all for a reason. Including, Jake.

Would you like to visit Discovery Mountain? You can! This is an excerpt from the first episode of the radio program which launched on April 19th. Stop by and discover Discovery Mountain!
